Our Work

Forensic Interviews

A forensic interview is a structured, child-focused conversation that gives a child a safe and supportive opportunity to share information about possible abuse, violence, or other traumatic experiences. Interviews are conducted by specially trained forensic interviewers who follow nationally recognized, research-based protocols.

Interviewers use developmentally appropriate, non-leading questions, allowing each child to share their experience in their own words and at their own pace. The goal is to gather accurate information while reducing the stress of having to repeatedly tell their story.

Forensic interviews are scheduled through referrals from law enforcement or the Department of Human Resources (DHR). Interviews are remotely observed by members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT), allowing professionals involved in the investigation to receive needed information while minimizing additional trauma to the child.

At Prescott House, every forensic interview is centered on giving children a safe, respectful opportunity to be heard.

Therapy

At Prescott House, we believe every child deserves the opportunity safely process their experiences to begin to healing. Our therapists provide high-quality, trauma-focused mental health services at no cost to children and families served by Prescott House.

Therapy is tailored to each child’s individual needs and may include evidence-based approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and TraumaPlay™. These approaches help children understand and process traumatic experiences, develop healthy coping skills, and address the emotional and behavioral effects of trauma.

Our goal is to compassionately help children and families find healing, build resilience, and move forward with hope.

Advocacy

Prescott House knows that healing is a journey, and the support children and families need may continue long after they leave our center. Our advocates stay connected with families, offering encouragement, follow-up, and connections to community resources along the way.  We believe in the strength and resilience of children and families. With caring adults, meaningful support, and the right resources around them, children can heal, grow, and thrive.

Prevention

Our Prevention Program works to build safer communities by educating both adults and children. We train adults and youth-serving organizations to recognize signs of abuse, reduce opportunities for harm, and strengthen the networks of safe, supportive adults around children.

Through age-appropriate, school-based programs for students in K4–12th grade, children learn about personal and body safety, healthy boundaries, online safety, and how to identify trusted adults they can turn to for help.

At Prescott House, we believe that prevention begins by creating communities where children are safe, supported, and able to thrive and the responsibility for protecting children belongs to adults.
