Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR)
The state agency responsible for the investigation of the home environment of the child once a case of abuse or neglect is report to them. Each county in the state has its own office which serves the area where they are located.
Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office
Assistant District Attorneys are assigned to prosecute cases of child physical and sexual abuse and severe neglect in the Birmingham Division of Jefferson County. They receive specialized training to prosecute cases of child abuse.
Our community is fortunate to have several outstanding facilities for medical examinations. Medical personnel receive specialized training to perform examination when abuse is suspected. They also testify in court as expert witnesses.
